Here are some of my favorite video game music tracks!

It is no secret that video game music means a lot to me. As the school year begins for many of us here (including me), I thought I would put together a playlist of some of my favorite video game tunes for you to hear in your spare time. They are not in any certain order, but I did limit myself to just games on Nintendo platforms as well as only one song per game (otherwise, you would probably just be listening to the entire Xenoblade OST). The playlist can be found by clicking here; special thanks to Gilvasunner for providing a majority of these tracks. Enjoy!

Track List

1. The Grand Finale (Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story)

This final boss theme for the third Mario & Luigi RPG perfectly captures the spirit of the battle that builds up to one epic, final moment.

2. Title (Pictionary)

This groovy title track from unlikely NES board game Pictionary puts most other video game themes to shame with its heavy base line and catchy tune.

3. Go K.K. Rider! (Super Smash Bros. Brawl)

This remix of the fan-favorite Go K.K. Rider song from the Animal Crossing remix gets an epic makeover featuring the very lovely K.K. Slider.

4. Rookie And Popple (Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga)

The boss theme from my favorite video game of all time makes battling everyone’s favorite villainous duo at least twice as fun.

5. Koopa Bros. Battle Theme (Paper Mario)

This snazzy soundtrack from the first Paper Mario game may not sound like something you would expect from a boss battle, but it perfectly personifies the Koopa Bros. and their not-so-intelligent antics.

6. Boss Battle (Ninja Gaiden)

This intense track from one of the most difficult NES games ever will not help you when your palms sweat and hands shake from battling that one boss over and over again.

7. Aurora Area (Kirby’s Return To Dream Land)

This calming overworld theme from Kirby’s Return To Dream Land is just as soothing as the game itself.

8. Beach Theme (Super Mario 3D Land)

This bubbly song from Mario’s first original portable 3D adventure is as upbeat as it is catchy and playful.

9. G.I.A.N.T.E.G.G! (Billy Hatcher And The Giant Egg)

This seemingly random opening theme for Billy Hatcher may seem a bit annoying at first, but its lyrics are impossible to forget and its tune just makes you want to dance along until the very end.

10. Victory Lap (Mario Kart 64)

This ending theme from Mario Kart 64 plays when you finally finish that hell of a long Rainbow Road track that everyone loves… and this song makes it all worth it.

11. Frog Hop (WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$)

This nifty little track plays every time you attempt the frog hop minigame in WarioWare, and as much as you hate always missing that last platform, you cannot help but always love this song.

12 The Sun Rises (Okami)

This epic piece from Okami mixes traditional oriental instruments with a steady drum line that results in one of the most beautiful video game tracks of all time.

13. Flock Step (Rhythm Heaven Fever)

This upbeat little song sounds very different without the constant squawking of your pink little flamingo friends, but even then it is hard not to fall in love with it.

14. Greenhorn Forest (Wario World)

This industrial-style track perfectly captures the wacky feel of Wario’s first 3D adventure.

15. Cheese Land (Mario Kart Super Circuit)

This catchy track from Mario’s first portal karting outing makes one of the best courses in the game just that much better.

16. Condemned Tower (Castlevania: Dawn Of Sorrow)

This beautiful piece tells a story of sadness and sorrow, but builds up to become wholesomely epic and hopeful.

17. Boss (Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards)

This fast-paced boss theme from Kirby 64 gets your heart racing every time you encounter a boss… and you can easily hear why.

18. The Red Locus (Radiant Historia)

This track from one of the last great DS RPG’s of the generation feels epic and grandiose despite being on such a tiny handheld.

19. Main Theme (Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3D)

This iconic main theme is what defines Metal Gear Solid for a lot of people, and it no doubt did the same with the 3D remake of MGS3.

20. Character Select (Mario’s Tennis)

This cool little song is from a Virtual Boy game… I know, right?

21. City Trial (Kirby Air Ride)

This song comes from one of my least favorite Kirby games, but even then I still get pumped after listening to this track.

22. Fear Factory (Donkey Kong Country)

This riveting track from the first Donkey Kong Country feels exactly as you would expect from its title, a true testament to David Wise’s great work on the SNES.

23. Character Select (Jet Force Gemini)

This character select theme’s prominent drum line from Jet Force Gemini gets you excited before the game even begins.

24. Metal Beat (Metal Masters)

This catchy beat may take a while to get started, but once it does, it is really, really hard to stop.

25. The Gears Go Awry (Castlevania: Portrait Of Ruin)

This song from Portrait Of Ruin may start off quite spooky, but it eventually warms up to become a very upbeat, adventurous track.

26. Main Menu (Toki Tori)

This title theme from one of my favorite WiiWare games will never fail to bring up your mood when you are feeling down.

27. Unchained (Unchained Blades)

This snazzy little track comes from a little-known JRPG that you can find on the 3DS eShop.

28. Those Who Bear Their Name (Xenoblade Chronicles)

This awesome battle theme plays whenever you initiate battle with a strong enemy in Xenoblade Chronicles, and even if you do lose, you will always try again because you want to win, if not to simply hear this song one more time.

29. Transition (Bit.Trip Beat)

This laidback beat from the first Bit.Trip game begins a bit slowly, but it soon transitions (see what I did there) to the catchy, iconic theme that we all know and love.

30. Title Theme (Paper Mario: Sticker Star)

This cute title theme from arguably the worst Paper Mario game is still pleasant to listen to, even if it failed to be what many fan of the series had wanted it to be.

31. Nebulox (Sin And Punishment: Star Successor)

This boss theme from the second Sin And Punishment game makes you know when something is up, and this game does not mess around when that something is here.

32. Track 02 (Target Renegade)

This song starts off super upbeat, but then turns into a really groovy, bass-heavy retro piece.

33. Wicked Flight (Bravely Default)

This really cool boss track is both chilling and fantastic, a great song to listen to you as you near your impending doom.

34. Opening Theme (Monster Hunter Tri)

This monstrous (hehe) track from the third Monster Hunter game perfectly captures the feeling of exploring a massive world full of creates that are a hundred times your size.

35. Zoness (Star Fox 64)

This depressing song plays in Star Fox 64 after the team discovers that Zoness is actually one massive dumping ground, yet it remains one of the more beautiful pieces in the game.

36. Saturos (Golden Sun)

This boss theme may sound familiar to you, but chances are that you have never played the GBA RPG that it comes from.

37. Main Theme (Trine 2)

This main theme from Wii U eShop title Trine 2 feels very magical and majestic, much like the game itself.

38. Revelations (Resident Evil Revelations)

This creepy track from the first Revelations game may not seem like much, but after a few minutes, it becomes one of the coolest songs in Resident Evil history.

39. Taisen 4 (Puyo Pop Fever)

This upbeat song from Puyo Pop Fever almost sounds too happy for a puzzle game that requires focus and concentration, but does it really matter if the track is this good?

40. Pursuit, Cornered (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney)

This dramatic piece from the first Phoenix Wright game is the exact song that I would hear in my head when I am in court and someone just caught me lying… not that I would do something like that or anything.

41. Fever (Dr. Mario)

This classic Dr. Mario track is pretty catchy for an NES game about busting viruses, and now it is one of the most iconic tracks in gaming.

42. Stickerbush Symphony (Donkey Kong Country 2)

This track from DKC2 is eerily depressing, but it sounds beautifully wonderful all the same.

43. Sloprano Swears (Conker’s Bad Fur Day)

This song from one of my favorite platformers of all time is lyrically crude, but that is exactly why I love it so much.

44. Boiling Pot (Super Monkey Ball 2)

This catchy world theme from the second Monkey Ball game reminds me of a great day at the spa…

45. Cloud Tops (The Legend Of Zelda: The Minish Cap)

This remix of the Zelda theme from my favorite portable Zelda game plays in one of the latter dungeons in the game, and it sounds as wonderfully epic.

46. Gritzy Desert (Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time)

This desert track from the worst Mario & Luigi RPG (I’m sorry) sounds, well, gritzy.

47. Throwback Galaxy (Super Mario Galaxy 2)

This remixed track of Super Mario 64’s overworld theme makes me want to throw up my jazz hands in the air.

48. Sappy (Tetrisphere)

This surprisingly mellow tune comes from one of the best soundtracks to ever grace a Tetris game.

49. Showdown With Napoleon (Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure)

This epic piece plays during one of the boss rhythm levels in Rhythm Thief.

50. Staff Roll (Super Mario 64)

This beautiful piece plays at the end of Super Mario 64, a great ending to one of the greatest games of all time.
