Two of my favorite things in the world are video games and community service. The former should be very clearly obvious to you all by now, but the latter may not be so evident if you don’t read my personal blogs. To do a charity stream has always been a dream of mine, but until now I have lacked the means or the resources to do so. UCI Circle K gave me this opportunity.

Hold up, stop this cheer. Let me rewind for a bit. What is UCI Circle K? For starters, Circle K is an international, collegiate-level community service organization supported by the Kiwanis family. The Circle K club at UCI is the largest Circle K club in the world, with over 300 dues-paying members. This year, collectively, we have completed over 6,200 hours of service since June. That’s a lot of service!

I first brought up the idea of a charity stream on a whim a few weeks ago, inspired by MyIGN’s very own Extra Life team, who raised over $2,000 towards supporting kids in CMN Hospitals (you, way to go you!). Before I knew it, I found myself working with the club’s technology committee to plan out and coordinate a 24-hour video game marathon, something we would eventually brand as “Change Thru Games.”

“Change Thru Games” is a 24-hour charity stream hosted in part by me as a way for UCI Circle K to support the Eliminate Project, which aims to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. We will begin our stream at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Friday (that’s today!) and play until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Donations can be sent through the PayPal found either on our website here or our Twitch stream here. Donors can optionally attach “dares” alongside their donation and enter to win a raffle prize (more details in the links above).

It is my hope that you will all watch the stream and consider donating. But even if you don’t, I fully appreciate the support you guys have given me throughout these past few years. Honestly, without the wonderful people of MyIGN, I probably would not have had the confidence to pursue something like this. And, let’s face it, things are just getting started.

Thank you all! Again, the live stream can be found on our website here. I’ll see you guys soon!
