And on the seventh day...

This past week, I have been busy posting impressions on some downloadable title I have been playing on either the Nintendo 3DS or Wii U eShop. Twelve games and four thousand words later, I have finally drawn things to a close. INDIES is now over.

You can read snippets of my many impressions as well as links to the full write-ups below.

Cave Story:

Cave Story is easily one of my favorite games of all time, and it is easy to see why. The game stands the test of time as a classic title that, even for a decade-old game, still looks, sounds, and feels great. I simply cannot wait to see what Pixel has in store for us next. (Read More…)

VVVVVV:

Although the main game is only about three to four hours long, the 3DS version features extra modes and an additional 18 new worlds created by various other popular independent developers. From a purely value standpoint, this game is a steal. VVVVVV is a great indie game that every gamer should check out. (Read More…)

Cloudberry Kingdom:

Ultimately, Cloudberry Kingdom is a fantastic pick-up-and-play title that never gets old thanks to its clever level generator. Those who are looking for a challenge will certainly enjoy the higher difficulty modes this game offers while more timid fans of the platforming genre will appreciate the game’s ability to create exciting levels without giving you brain aneurysms. When it comes to indie 2D platform games, Cloudberry Kingdom is a must. (Read More…)

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams:

If you are looking for a solid 2D platformer that does some curious new things, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams may interest you. It definitely has its fair share of problems, but the game taps into that old-school collect-a-thon vibe that will certainly make many gamers happy. (Read More…)

Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Edition:

In fact, the whole game felt like a test of patience. By the time I had reached the final boss, I could not play any longer. For far too long I felt as if I was fighting against the game – and I ultimately let the game win. It is not a bad game per se, but there are certainly many things that could have made it much, much better. (Read More…)

Bit.Trip Presents Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien:

Still, Runner2 is undoubtedly fun and visually captivating, even if obnoxiously difficult. There is a sense of purity when it comes to this sort of game, and it is hard not to appreciate that. (Read More…)

Little Inferno:

Admittedly, Little Inferno can get a bit repetitive and boring, but my fascination for the game’s world (and burning stuff – I may or may not be a pyromaniac) kept me going. Although the game is quite short, I left very satisfied and happy to experience this weird puzzle game unlike any other. (Read More…)

Knytt Underground:

Needless to say, I love Knytt Underground. Even if its story may sound unappealing to you, it is only a fraction of what makes Knytt Underground so fascinating. If you are a fan of 2D adventure games or puzzle platformers, definitely check this game out. (Read More…)

Pushmo:

Admittedly, all of this does begin to feel repetitious after a few hours. Even though the game does provide content for virtually unlimited play, there is only so much Pushmo my brain can take. If you want a simple brain teaser or a time waster, definitely consider picking up Pushmo for your 3DS. (Read More…)

NightSky:

If you want to try out an intriguing little puzzle game on your 3DS, go ahead and give NightSky a shot. As it stands, however, I find it difficult to give the game even a general recommendation. (Read More…)

Toki Tori 2+:

Overall, Toki Tori 2+ is missing the special something that made the first game so great. There is limited appeal to the slow-paced puzzle-solving nature of the game and it does too little to keep the player engaged. That said, there is certainly much to do in Toki Tori 2+ and so anyone looking for a quirky little puzzle game may find this title to be somewhat interesting. (Read More…)

Trine 2: Director’s Cut:

Still, Trine 2 is fun enough for me to give a general recommendation to anyone who is fond of the genre. The controls will obviously take time to get used to, but otherwise this game is a great puzzle platform game that is certainly worth looking into. (Read More...)
