Why Majora’s Mask is crying for a remake.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D has been out for a week now (or more, depending on when you’re reading this), and I think by now, every Nintendo gamer should know that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of the most famous games of all time, probably even the best. So much so, that some people just call it Zelda 64. But a lot of us forget that the Nintendo 64 also delivered another spectacular Zelda game: Majora’s Mask.

I’m sure that many of you would agree that if Nintendo was to remake another N64 game, it would have to be Majora’s Mask. You have to admit, Nintendo has been giving OoT a lot more love than its younger counterpart. And as much as I would love to see Donkey Kong 64 and the two Banjo games come to life on the 3DS, those were made by Rare, and getting Rare to agree to remake them would be quite difficult (though we did see ports of the DKC on VC, and those were also made by Rare).

Remember this? Now imagine it in 3D!

So, why remake Majora’s Mask? Unlike with OoT, most people have never fully completed MM (as mentioned before, some have not even heard of it). Now would be a great time to let the world know that “Hey, you know that great OoT3D we made? Well, here comes the sequel.” Seeing how successful OoT3D was, there is no doubt that MM3D would be snatched up just as fast. Plus, given the time that Nintendo could work with the hardware, many would agree that Majora’s Mask is in fact the better game, and for several reasons: 1) the story is dramatically cinematic and dark, and 2) the visual effects would look great in 3D. The constant use of blurs and shadows in the game’s many cut scenes would make this game stunning in 3D, yet it won’t take away the game’s original charm.

But most of us would just like to enjoy a game that we have never really fully enjoyed before. Like most other people, I have OoT on the VC, but not MM. And MM is still itself a magnificent game. But there are a ton people out there who haven’t played Majora’s Mask before, and what better time to remake it than now, for the Nintendo 3DS? I most certainly would buy it.
